Rainbow school is committed to diversity, and as such strategically focuses on including students and their families that represent and embody our city’s diversity. One of our core values is equity, and as such, we aim to build and sustain our diversity efforts, actively building a diverse school community wherein social identities are explored and formed. Being a diverse school is a strength, which allows us to use a multicultural curriculum, while creating a sense of community and belonging for every student. We recognize and respect the fact that diversity exists in many forms, including our languages, colors of our skin, genders and ages, structure of our families, financial resources, and special needs. Hence, differences of all kinds are acknowledged, accepted and explored with love and respect at our school.

During the year, students will explore the composition of our family structure, slowly moving to look at their classroom community, their neighborhood, to the city, the nation and the world. We will focus on sharing, friendships, responsibility, fairness, and inclusiveness. We aim to foster deeper understanding of our roots and the complexities of our society, especially as we live in such a cosmopolitan city. In developmentally appropriate ways, we will explore aspects of our identity, seeking to learn about our differences and our similarities, accepting all aspects of race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomics, religion, ethnicity, family composition, cultural background, and learning styles. This is true for what happens in the classroom, as well as at Rainbows as a school at large. Children will be encouraged to embrace and become advocates for our inclusive community, seeing how these issues are a natural part of our everyday lives, as they will be learning about it through books, conversation, classroom guests (and family/community members), the arts, and field-trips.

Our diversity is reflected not only in our families, but also in our faculty and staff, who come from diverse backgrounds and are committed to our inclusive community of learners. We acknowledge that dealing with the human condition is complex and sometimes challenging, but we strive to foster a spirit of optimism and courage. We expect all members of the community to uphold and model the principles of equity and justice, as we are an active part of a larger community, and we strive to create a community whose members reflect the diversity of our current days. Students of Rainbow will grow to realize and respect their own identities, as well as be informed, competent and compassionate leaders of the global community.
